Via https://www.remodelaholic.com/top-3-favorite-ikea-desk-hacks-5-tips-for-the-at-home-homework-station/ For most people, they learn this the hard way. It is very infuriating when you spend hours sewing something then it shrinks past wearability! Pre-washing upholstery fabric before sewing is very important as it prevents such devastations. Most fabric will shrink whereas others drape upon washing. Here you will find tips for treating some common types of fabrics. If you have a cotton fabric that you want to wash before sewing then here are tips. For cotton voile, hand wash using a gentle detergent and hang to dry as it is delicate and can tear in a washing machine. As for medium and heavy cotton fabrics, you can opt to machine wash them then dry them using a dryer. You may also opt to wash them severally for improved softness and prevention of shrink. Cotton flannel is yet another type of upholstery fabric that can really shrink. It is advisable that you wash it at least two times in hot water then dry in a drying machine so as to remove the shrink as much as possible. The last fabric is cotton denim. It is commonly known for bleeding because of the dyes it is made of. Besides, the fabric softens considerably after washing and its recommended to wash only once before sewing. ![]() A couple weeks ago we walked you through a tour of our new (to us) home… Well, while we have been here for over a year, but we’ve been so busy with major remodeling that actually writing a blog post about it has been hard- and so many projects, have been done half way just […] The post Closet Transformation appeared first on Remodelaholic.
