Here you will find tips for treating some common types of fabrics. If you have a cotton fabric that you want to wash before sewing then here are tips. For cotton voile, hand wash using a gentle detergent and hang to dry as it is delicate and can tear in a washing machine. As for medium and heavy cotton fabrics, you can opt to machine wash them then dry them using a dryer. You may also opt to wash them severally for improved softness and prevention of shrink. Cotton flannel is yet another type of upholstery fabric that can really shrink. It is advisable that you wash it at least two times in hot water then dry in a drying machine so as to remove the shrink as much as possible. The last fabric is cotton denim.
